The Setúbal Open Water Race is organised by HMS Sports (address: Rua Principal, nº63 - Bairro da Mina, 2785-163 São Domingos de Rana; VAT number: 508 383 528), with the support of the Setúbal Municipality.

• 3.000m: 9:00 AM
• 1.500m: 11:00 AM
• 750m: 12:00 PM

Start and Finish Lines: Praia do Creiro

The Setúbal Open Water Race is an open water race, with the start and finish line located at Praia do Creiro and covering three distances:

• 750m
• 1.500m
• 3.000m

The Setúbal Open Water Race includes three different distances, all with a start and finish line at Praia do Creiro and each race is made up of different laps:

• 750m: 1 lap starting and finishing on the sand
• 1.500m: 1 lap starting and finishing on the sand
• 3.000m: 2 laps with return to the sand at the end of the first lap

At the finish line, all athletes will receive a packet of solid and liquid supply.

Each race will have the following deadlines:

• 750m: 40 minutes
• 1.500m: 60 minutes
• 3.000m: 90 minutes

All athletes who do not complete the course within the stipulated time for their race will be removed from the competition and will not be considered for classification.

a) Registrations are open until March 27, 2026, unless they are sold out before the defined period, and are made on the event's official website: setubalopenwaterrace.pt

b) Entry Fees:

(*) 3 Distance Pack: available through the individual and team forms, for the same athlete.

c) Payments can be made via ATM, VISA or MBWay reference.

Each reference is valid for a maximum of 72 hours. After this validity, the reference expires and the athlete will need to register again.

d) The organisation may at any time suspend or extend deadlines or add or limit the number of registrations for the event depending on technical/structural needs/availability, without previous warning.

The registration is personal and non-transferable.

Refunds of the registration fee will be made in accordance with the provisions set out in point 23 of these regulations.

e) Registration limit: 1.000 participants.

f) Minimum age for participation:

Athletes must reach the minimum age for participation by December 31, 2026.

The Setúbal Open Water Race athlete's race packet includes:

• Swim cap
• Timing chip
• Race gift: technical t-shirt

• 3 swim caps
• 1 chip
• 1 race gift: technical t-shirt

Every athlete is guaranteed a t-shirt by the organisation. Available sizes are: S, M, L and XL.

The available t-shirt sizes' measurements (height x width) are as follows:

• S: 69 x 47 cm
• M: 72 x 50 cm
• L: 74 x 53 cm
• XL: 76 x 56 cm

The size of the t-shirt will be chosen on the race registration form. The measurements for each size can also be found on the registration form.

Size changes for the t-shirt will not be accepted while picking up the race package.

If there is stock available after the event, the organisation will exchange it.

a) The athlete’s race packet will be available for pick-up on the following date, location and time:

Saturday, 28 March 2026, at Praia do Creiro, Setúbal, according to the race in which you are registered:

• 3,000m + 3-distance pack: from 7:00 to 8:50
• 1,500m: from 9:00 to 10:45
• 750m: from 10:45 to 11:45

b) To pick up the athlete’s race packet, you must present:

• Registration confirmation received by email after payment

If the athlete does not have this registration confirmation, presentation of an identification document may be required (Identity Card, Citizen Card or Driving Licence).

c) To pick up the athlete’s race packet on behalf of another athlete, you must present:

• Registration confirmation of the athlete assigned to the bib number, received by email after payment

If the person picking-up the race packet does not have this registration confirmation, presentation of an identification document may be required (Identity Card, Citizen Card or Driving Licence).

The organisation guarantees, for a period of 15 days, counting from the date of the event, the custody of all paid and not picked race packets.

To obtain the unpicked race packet, the athlete must contact the organisation using the available contact details.

Shipping costs for the race packet will be covered by the athlete.

After the defined period, the organisation will deliver all the athlete's kits not collected to a social solidarity institution.

The gifts at the end of the race are exclusive to participants who complete the route and cross the finish line, with the official race bib and chip of Setúbal Open Water Race.

All athletes registered in the Setúbal Open Water Race must use the timing chip provided in the athlete's race packet, with the respective bracelet.

The timing chip and respective bracelet must be handed over to the organisation at the end of the race. The athlete will only receive the race packet at the end of the race, when they hand over the timing chip and bracelet.

If you lose your timing chip and bracelet, you will be charged 30€, which must be paid at the event venue, in cash.

The timing chip will only be read if it is placed correctly on the ankle. If the timing chip is removed from the bracelet by the athlete and placed incorrectly, its reading is not guaranteed and will not be included in the classification.

The organisation is not responsible for failure to present results in case of incorrect placement of the timing chip.

The organisation will disqualify all athletes who complete the race with:

• 1. More than 1 timing chip;
• 2. A timing chip from another athlete;
• 3. Male athletes with timing chip of female athletes and vice versa.

Trophies will be awarded to the following athletes:

• The top three categories for both men and women
• Winning team in the classification of teams (only for the 1.500m and 3.000m events) (^*)
• Top three male and female finishers registered in the 3-distance pack

(^*) The top 5 classified from each team will be considered for the team classification, regardless of gender and will be calculated based on the sum of times.

Both male and female athletes will be taken into account for team classification.

All team athletes must be registered with the same team name, without exception. If they have different names, they will be considered different teams.

The male and female winners of each category of the 750 metre, 1.500 metre and 3.000 metre courses will be offered a registration for the Setúbal Open Water Race 2027 edition, with registration valid only for the respective athletes.

All participants who complete the respective course will be given a supply kit.

All athletes will be able to download an electronic participation certificate from the event website.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the Setúbal Open Water Race, regardless of gender or nationality as long as they have properly registered, followed all rules, and submitted their entries by the deadline.

Swimmers are not permitted to use auxiliary buoyancy, propulsion and breathing materials or objects, such as, but not limited to: pullbouy, fins, snorkel.

It's mandatory to use the swim cap provided by the organisation.

It's mandatory to use the timing chip provided by the organisation.

Athletes who do not wear an isothermal suit will be marked with the respective numbers on their back, arms and hands. Athletes wearing an isothermal suit will be marked with their respective numbers on their hands.

For races with water temperatures above 18ºC and below 20ºC, the isothermal suit is optional. When the water temperature is equal to or bellow 18ºC, all athletes are required to wear a wetsuit.

Textile suits cannot extend beyond the shoulders, neck and ankles, respecting all other requirements as to the specifications of the suits for the pool.

^* Note: isothermal suits are suits that produce thermal insulation. For this particular competition, this could be any costume, even if it has no arms or half legs, as well as surfing suits. They can also be used during the competition: protective neck collars and watches.

All marker buoys on the route must be bypassed as indicated under penalty of disqualification.

The athletes start on land and their race time is activated the moment they step on the timing mat.

In the 3.000m race, athletes are forced to come to the sand between laps and there will be a timing mat to guarantee this step. All athletes who do not have a time reading at this control point will be disqualified.

Only the athlete's final time is considered when he steps on the timing mat placed in the finish line area and his timing chip is read.

The following age-groups are considered for male and female athletes, with the classification being made jointly between the Open Water and Masters Open Water categories:

The start will be carried out in groups of 8 athletes, with a 10-second interval between each start.

Starts will be lined up according to the order in which athletes arrive at the start area.

The race and each athlete’s time will only begin when the athlete steps on the timing mat installed in the start area.

The organisation will disqualify any athlete who:

• falsify any element relating to your registration;
• do not show up at the starting location, respecting all rules regarding equipment, identification and chip in accordance with regulations;
• exhibit a low state of health;
• use another athlete’s identification numbers;
• use the provided chip inappropriately;
• use more than one chip;
• use another athlete's chip;
• does not follow the signs posted by the organisation and/or jumps barriers to the start line;
• don't finish the entire course;
• do not respect the organisation's instructions;
• demonstrates unsportsmanlike conduct, such as pushing and blocking that is meant to cause harm to other athletes;
• receive external support for the race;
• do not respect other athletes.

HMS Sports will not accept the registration of athletes with unsportsmanlike conduct in its competitions.

The police and security forces will be responsible for managing, planning and controlling and eliminating unauthorized elements during the events, as well as ensuring the safety of participants.

The race organisers will provide Setúbal Open Water Race participants with medical support with emergency ambulances during the course, start and finish of the events.

If additional emergency medical treatment is required, the SNS (Portuguese National Health Service) will be in charge of providing it.

Any participant who is considered unfit to participate or who has received critical medical attention may be removed from the Setúbal Open Water Race by the medical staff.

The Race Director will decide cases not covered by the Setúbal Open Water Race rules.

When registering, all participants or their legal guardians, in the case of underage athletes, accept these regulations and, in case of doubt or the emergence of a situation not covered by it, they must inform the organisation.

By registering, all participants declare acceptance of these regulations.

19. 1 Disclaimer

With registration, all participants or their legal guardians, in the case of underage athletes, declare that they assume the following terms of responsibility:

• a) I have read and agree with the Setúbal Open Water Race regulations, available on the website setubalopenwaterrace.pt
• b) I am aware of my health status and that I am physically and psychologically capable of participating.
• c) I undertake to refrain from participating in the Setúbal Open Water Race, if my health conditions change after registration.
• d) I am aware of the content of the insurance policy in force and have read its specifications, contained in the competition regulations.
• e) By participating in the Setúbal Open Water Race, I authorize, free of charge and unconditionally, that HMS Sports and the race partners use my image. Through this instrument, I grant all rights to use my image, as captured in photographs and filming that will take place during the tests, renouncing the receipt of any amount that may be earned from its disclosure in supporting communication pieces. .
• f) I participate in the Setúbal Open Water Race of my own free will, exempting HMS Sports, partners, directors, employees and other companies linked to the organisation of the event from any liability resulting from my participation in the Setúbal Open Water Race, before , during and after it (e.g. loss of personal objects due to theft or other circumstances).

19.2 Data Processing

Personal data will be processed automatically, under the terms approved by the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union, by the event organisation, the entity responsible for the data, exclusively for the provision of services necessary for participation in the event in who signs up.

The processing of data for communication about the event for which you register, communication of other events from HMS Sports Consulting and services and communication from this event partners is optional and is subject to specific and express consent in the event registration form, always in compliance with Directive 95/46/EC of April 27, 2016.

Participants are guaranteed, under the terms of the same law, access to their data, and may request it in writing from the organisation for it to be updated, corrected or deleted.

The personal data collected as a result of this event will be stored for a period of two years and is accessible free of charge for consultation, rectification or deletion via email geral@ hmssports.pt

Participants must meet the health conditions necessary to practice sports. After registering, they assume that they feel physically and psychologically prepared for the physical effort inherent to the race in which they will participate.

All participants, without exception, must meet the health conditions necessary to practice sports, exempting the organisation of the event, its partners, supporters and public bodies involved from any responsibilities.

The organisation of the event provides registrants with personal accident insurance, with the following coverage:

• Death: 44.560€
• Permanent disability: 44.560€
• Funeral expenses: 4.456€
• Treatment and repatriation expenses: 5.570€
• Expenses for replacement, repair of existing prostheses and orthoses – maximum of 7.5% of the value of treatment expenses: 417.75€

The organisation is not responsible for situations that are not covered by this insurance.

Upon registration, the participant grants HMS Sports and its affiliates free and unconditional permission to use their image for event filming, including reproduction of the image in promotional and communication materials.

HMS Sports reserves the right to use the database with elements filled in by participants in its promotional activities.

Participants can choose not to allow the transfer of the personal information obtained during registration by selecting the option on the form.

Refunds for registration fees are not issued.

However, until March 10th, 2026, the participant may transfer their registration to another person as long as they formally request this change, in writing, to the organisation – suporte@hmssports.pt. If the participant does not inform the organisation of such a situation, the organisation will not be responsible for any accident or damage that this athlete may suffer.

The event may be cancelled due to external factors such as natural disasters, strikes, demonstrations, inability to use traffic routes, telecommunications, government restrictions, or new legislation.

In these cases, the organisation reserves the right, within 30 days following the date scheduled for the event, to issue an opinion on the actions to be taken resulting from the severity of the cancellation.

This website's terms and conditions are subject to current Portuguese legislation.

Any conflict or divergence of interpretation will be submitted to the territorially competent court. If the user resides outside of Portugal, the Portuguese courts hereby agree to have jurisdiction.

The organisation provides support systems to help athletes get answers to their questions.
